False Hero Loadout Planner
Three slots. No sword in the commit row.
Write your False Hero kit like a sentence: poke, commit, escape. If two slots say the same verb, you are repeating an art, and the tutorial already told you that is slower. This planner is for the Steam demo catalogue. Full-game rows will wait for 22 September 2026.
Cross-check letters on the tier list and the two finished kits on combo builds. Then actually bind the buttons in the Combat Arts menu — a planner you do not take into Ignorance is a blog post.
Slot A — Poke
Job: spend Focus at a distance when a limb or a saw is winding.
Demo pick: Book Throw. Homing, mid-range, available as soon as scholars exist. Upgrade with Knowledge Points if this is your panic button.
Do not put here: Spectral Blade (too short), tentacle (too greedy), sword (not an art).
Test: can you hit Ignorance during a long wind-up without walking into a hip? If no, this slot is empty even if an icon is bound.
Slot B — Commit
Job: spend a chunk of Focus on the stagger pop or on an unblockable punish.
Demo picks:
- Before Ignorance dies: Spectral Blade (wide, hitbox-buffed).
- After Ignorance dies: Tentacle (unblockable). Spectral Blade can stay if you have a third button; it should not beat tentacle against machines.
Do not put here: Book Throw. A poke that you treat as a finisher is how Focus evaporates and stagger regen wins.
Test: when the stagger bar pops, do you have a wide or unblockable art ready, or do you sword? If you sword, this slot failed.
Slot C — Escape
Job: damage while leaving a bad clip.
Demo pick: Evasive Thrust (hitbox increased on purpose). Flamethrower can guest-star in a doorway, not as a default escape.
Do not put here: a third copy of your poke. Escape is a direction, not a vibe.
Test: can you leave a Red Guardian saw without being a corpse and without spending the whole stamina bar on dashes? Thrust should be doing part of that work. See demo bosses.
Fill-in sheet
Copy this into a note, then play:
- Poke art: ________ (default: Book Throw)
- Poke button: ________
- Commit art: ________ (Spectral Blade / Tentacle)
- Commit button: ________
- Escape art: ________ (Evasive Thrust)
- Escape button: ________
- Knowledge Points spent on: ________
- Bloodspring closest to the next fog: ________
- I will not put the Blade of Wisdom in a slot because it is fuel: yes / I am about to have a bad time
If a row is blank, steal it. Combat Arts explains Insight. You cannot farm the same enemy twice for extra Insight, so go find a different creature instead of standing in the library like a statue.
Button hygiene
Controller: poke on a face button you can hit while the stick is busy, commit on a trigger, escape on a bumper. Keyboard: after the WASD remap patch, make sure arts are not sharing the movement keys. Force Xbox or PlayStation icons if the glyphs lie. Details on controls.
When the full game adds god powers and a real catalogue, add a fourth row — puzzle / god — instead of stuffing a shrine power into Escape. Until then, three verbs are enough. Bind them. Walk to the fog. Press poke on the wind-up, commit on the stagger, escape on the saw. That is the planner. Everything else is fashion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for the Steam demo and the 22 Sep 2026 launch.
Can I run two poke arts?
You can. You should not. The demo wants a poke and a commit. Two pokes is the “same art twice” lesson with extra steps.
Where does Flamethrower go?
Situational choke, not a default slot. After its damage cut it is a guest in Escape or a fourth button, not your commit.
Do clothing pieces fill a slot?
No. They equip in Equipment and do not replace Combat Arts.
